Welcome to our Polled Wiltshire web page.

The Wiltshire is the perfect sheep for those of us who do not have
the time or expertise to shear or crutch our sheep.
They are a true meat breed without the extra expenses or worries
of many of the other breeds.

Wilkamdai Stud has been breeding the polled wiltshires since
2001, when we were fortunate enough to purchased our foundation flock
from a breeder who had been breeding and developing the polled
wiltshire as a compliment to his Wiltshire Horn stud for
almost 20 years prior.

We have continued to cross these polled wiltshires over our stud Wiltshire
Horn Rams to ensure that they have all the qualities we enjoy in our Wiltshires,
until 2008 when we selected two polled rams from our flock who reflect the
quality we wish to achieve in our polled sheep.

We see the polled wiltshire as a compliment to our horned flock, particularly
for those who prefer the polled variety over the horned. Currently our polled
wiltshires are not registered, however we are considering having
them registered in the near future.

If you require any further information about these truly easy care sheep then, please
do not hesitate to contact us, we will be more than  happy to help,
otherwise please feel free to browse through some of the pictures
of our polled wiltshires below.

& daughter

One of our Polled Wiltshire Rams - JJ

We aim to continue to keep the
Wiltshire traits such as their
excellent shedding ability, black points
which are important for both sun protection
 and ensuring that their hooves
are hardy and not as suseptible to
feet problems like white hooved sheep.

Polled Wiltshire Maiden Ewe

Pair of our Polled Wiltshires -
9 year old ewe (back) and maiden ewe (front)
We have found the Wiltshire to
be a quiet, hardy, intelligent sheep,
that won't have you chasing them
all around the paddock in
frustration when its time to move them
on to fresh pasture.

We never need to use dogs etc.

With the shedding of their
fleece, we no longer need to worry with
shearing & crutching.
Their fleece naturally sheds in late
winter / early spring.
We find our paddocks look a bit like
snow for about two weeks before the local
bird life takes the wool for nesting material.

Wiltshire's have a very neat,
clean, healthy look practically
all year round.

This is a 9 year old ewe, daughter
of one of the original foundation ewe's
we purchased in 2001.  We will join her for one more year, before retiring her.
As with the wiltshire horns, they develop more 'dimes' or spots as they get older.

They are truly an easy care sheep with none of the worries you have with
other sheep breeds.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us.
