Wilkamdai Poultry Information:

Wilkamdai Poultry is set on a small farm in western Victoria.  All our poultry are bred in free range conditions with limited penning through the breeding season.  We also work in conjunction with many close friends who also have a passion for breeding various rare breeds.

Together , we aim to continue to improve quality & increase the population of some of the rarer breeds of poultry here in Australia by providing practical information on the various breeds that are currently available here in Australia to encourage renewed interest in these wonderful birds.

Wilkamdai Poultry will sometimes have limited numbers of stock or fertile eggs available for those who are wanting some of the more unusual breeds of chicken.  If we cannot help you, then we will do our best to link you in with breeders who can.

For us, the breeding season usually begins in late July, with fertile eggs usually being available in late August onwards. However, we are a bit late this year & will not have fertile eggs till mid September. We finish our breeding season at the end of October.

Any spare chicks from the seasons breeding will be available for sale from early December of each year & generally we have no stock left for sale by the end of February of the following year.  We do not take orders, as we breed as a hobby and prefer to breed for our own enjoyment, letting go of any excess to our needs.

Please note, like many pure bred breeders we choose not to inoculate our chickens due to:

  • We have found that they will naturally build up their own immunity

  • Some research has found that you can introduce disease to your farm through poultry inoculations,

  • Unless you are a commercial breeder, you cannot access all required inoculations' - for example the average breeder can only purchase two of the three required Mareks inoculations', the third is only available to commercial breeders in Australia.

  • We find by choosing the natural way with good hygiene, provision of quality feed and no over crowding you will not have many issues.

If you already breed a rare breed,  feel free to email us with your details & we will list you in our breeders directory for enquiries.
